Requirements to register as a STUDENT |
In order to be a licensed STUDENT OPTICIAN OR *CONTACT LENS FITTER the following requirements must be met: *In Nova Scotia you must be a fully licensed Optician before you can apply as a student Contact Lens Fitter. Student Application for License or Registration (Download in PDF format). Applicants residing in Nova Scotia must complete an Application for License or Registration to be registered as a Student Optician with the Nova Scotia College of Dispensing Opticians (NSCDO) prior to being accepted into an Optical Training Program. Proof of registration as a Student Optician with the NSCDO is required with your application to enroll in an Eyeglasses or Contact Lenses program. Sponsorship Agreement Form (Download in PDF format). Applicants must already be working in an optical dispensary and have a qualified preceptor/supervisor (sponsor) willing to supervise the clinical (practical) component of the program. The preceptor (sponsor) must be a registered, practicing Optician or Optometrist. PLEASE NOTE: The Nova Scotia College of Dispensing Opticians (NSCDO) requires a preceptor be licensed for a minimum of two (2) years prior to being eligible to sponsor/supervise a student and are limited to supervise two (2) students at one time. For more information, please refer to the Sponsor Agreement form. Registration Fee. The cost to register as a Student Optician or Contact Lens Fitter is $50.00 annually (subject to change). Payment can be made by cheque, money order or credit card. You can also make payment by credit card by providing your information and authorizing NSCDO to charge your credit card with a credit card authorization form. With this authorization a payment request can be emailed to you with a link to complete credit card payment.
